How We Met

Like any good love story, Kyle and Katie met with the assistance of a dating app (Shoutout Hinge) during the height of an unprecedented global pandemic. 2020 turned out to be quite a good year for these two after a successful first Facetime date (did I mention this was during an unprecedented pandemic?) led to their first official date at Navy Yard's Bluejacket, where they later took a stroll around the neighborhood stopping for Ice Cream and views of the water. Spoiler alert - Kyle later proposed at that very same spot on June 25, 2023!
Katie went home from that first date to tell her roommate that this one was absolutely going to be her boyfriend, no doubt about it. Kyle must've had similar feelings as they continued to see each other and asked her out to a favorite restaurant of his, where he knew the chef before they both left for Thanksgiving.
For those who know Katie & Kyle, you'll remember that she was a very picky eater before knowing Kyle, and accepting this date required a lot of calls to her mom, googling the menu, eating some safety nuggets beforehand (you get it), while Kyle's favorite thing is trying new adventourous foods.
After multiple courses of gorgeous,  unrecognizable foods to Katie (of which she tried them all and even really liked the Sqoodles!), Kyle asked if she wanted to be his girlfriend ~swoon~ on a street corner in Georgetown, just a few minutes walk from what will become their first home together. ~double swoon~

WEDDING PARTY

Anna Nicholos

One of Katie's very favorite people and younger sister, Anna, just began her own journey at George Mason University - which couldn't make Katie any happier!

JW Craft

Kyle's oldest brother turned business partner has been a life-long role model, a view only strengthened by working together over the past 4 years.

Amanda Bennett

Amanda has been one of Katie's closest friends since High School where they were nearly inseparable, even getting jobs together at the local Fazolis!

Ryan Craft

Kyle's second brother turned business partner has never missed an opportunity to support him in all of life's ups and downs. From flying cross-country for championship games to now standing beside him at the altar.

Amy Walsh

Amy and Katie met during her junior year at George Mason, when Amy moved into her dorm and aligned their class schedules - becoming fast and lifelong friends!

Chas Jhin

Kyle's college roommate proving a friendship forged by countless FIFA matches lasts a lifetime. Kyle even learned to code to try to be more like Chas!

Beck Olp

Beck and Katie are very close cousins, even though they've always lived far apart. When ever they are back together, seemingly no time has past!

Luke Pardue

From living across the hall from each other freshman year at ND through their time together in DC, Luke has provided a steady laugh-track to all of Kyle's (objectively funny) jokes.

Katelin Nicholos

Katie was introduced to Katelin when she started dating her brother, Ryan. They lived together for nearly three years and love that they now have a sisterly bond for life!

Ryan Nicholos

Katie lived with her brother Ryan through the first year of Katie and Kyle's relationship. Ryan's warm welcome made Kyle feel immediately at home with the whole Nicholos family.

Liz Solorzano

Things To Do

In your spare time, here's some recommendations of things we'd probably be doing around town. Check websites before your visit as some offer reserved time slots or paid tickets:

  1. Smithsonian Museums - Free to the public, some of our favorites for art include the Hirshhorn, Renwick, National Gallery of Art, and the National Portrait Gallery.

  2. Historical Houses - The Hillwood Estate, Larz Anderson House and Tudor Place are all well worth a visit!

  3. Monuments - They never disappoint! You may also want to add the Library of Congress to your list.

  4. Bars & Restaurants
    • Near the Hotel Block: Katie lived in the Navy Yard neighborhood for two years, not far from the Hotel Block & the Wharf, when Katie and Kyle first began dating. In that time, they were frequent visitors to Atlas/Andy’s Pizza where we would recommend ordering a blood orange gose to drink and a whole margarita or pepperoni pie depending on your mood! Next door you’ll find Duke’s Grocery which is a great spot for a juicy pub burger and fries. On the opposite side of Nats Park, is Solace, a casual spot that has a great selection of beers and delicious fried chicken thighs. Nearer the hotel at the Wharf, you’ll find our favorite empanadas at Coloda Shop or a fun wine bar with flat breads called Easy Company. You also can never go wrong with Shake Shack.
    • Near the Ceremony: Kyle has lived in the Shaw neighborhood for the past five years and his top picks include the Buona pizza and garlic “knots” at All Purpose (he swears this location is better than the Navy Yard one) for upscale ‘za. Unconventional Diner has a fun twist on the classics like Meatloaf and Chicken Parm, and Chaplin’s is a go-to spot for Ramen on a chilly day. Blagden Ally boasts fun murals with a few great bars including Causa (fancy South American cocktails, think pisco sours), Calico (order the adult caprisun), and Lost & Found (casual bar with a good tap list that you can bring your food in – cheat code, All Purpose Pizza is right next door).
    • Other Favorites:If you’ve got time to explore more of DC, we love the ambiance and food at St. Anselm, with a bonus of being right next to the rest of Union Market. Founding Farmers is a crowd pleaser with something for everyone on the menu. Flavio in Georgetown is another great pizza spot with a full Italian menu, but we’d be remiss in not suggesting Filomena as the top DC Italian eat-so-much-you-can’t-move-and-yet-take-one-more-bite spot.

  5. Desserts & Shopping - Katie's favorite category by far! You can't go wrong in Georgetown - plenty of shops along M St. and Wisconsin. Head to Baked & Wired, Levain, Van Leeuwen, Thomas Sweets, or L.A. Burdock Chocolates for something sweet.

FAQs

Answers to Frequently Asked Questions:

  • Is there a dress code?
Our dress code is black-tie optional. Guests are encouraged to go as glamorous as they feel comfortable in formal or dressy attire. The wedding party will be in tuxedos and floor length gowns.

  • Are children allowed to attend?
While children listed on your formal invitation are invited to the wedding, we will not be providing childcare at the event and you will be responsible for watching your children. Please contact us directly if a booster seat or highchair will be needed for your party or if you have any other concerns related to children at the event.

  • Will transportation be provided?
Yes! We will have shuttle buses for guests to and from the hotel leaving at 1:15 PM prior to the ceremony and 3:00 PM after the ceremony. More information is listed in the Schedule section of the website. The Spy Museum Reception is on the same block as the Hilton for easy access to and from the reception.

  • Is parking available?
As our ceremony and reception will both be downtown, parking is limited and can be challenging to find. We recommend you use the shuttle to/from the event. Lyft & Uber are both available throughout the city as well as the Metro (L' Enfant Station is walkable from the hotel).

  • How late will the party go?
The space is ours till 11:30 PM, featuring late-night snacks, plenty of dancing, and capping off with a sparkler exit to end the night!

  • Do we need to solve the secret message?
Of course not! However, for those successful (adult) spies, we will have a small token prize for your efforts waiting at your table setting. Thanks for playing!
